Gulsan Jha, A Perfect Allrounder and Future of Nepali Cricket
Gulsan Jha became the ‘Best Nepali Player’ when Nepal qualified for the T20 World Cup after a decade. Nepal qualified for the World Cup after defeating the UAE in the finals of the Asia Qualifier held at home. In the final, they were defeated by Oman, who could not be defeated in the group stage too.
Gulsan, who performed all-round in the competition, was declared the best among Nepalese players. Taking wickets by bowling hard in the middle overs, and batting in any position when the team needs him, he has given the impression of a perfect all-rounder, although his career is in the early stage.
17-year-old Gulsan first caught everyone’s attention at the Mayor’s Cup in 2077 B.S. He played for the Nepal Police Club and caught the attention of the then coach of Nepal by bowling attractively against the Armed Police in the final. Gulsan Jha
After joining the national team, there was no looking back. He became an integral part of the unprecedented success of the Nepalese team in the last one year. He also contributed to a respectable performance against strong teams like India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup, winning 11 of the last 12 matches in League Two.
He proved that he is an all-rounder by playing important innings even in a few matches of ODI cricket, but he did not get that much opportunity in T20. He proved himself to be a good all-rounder in T20 in the home ground, the triangular series in Kathmandu and the Asia Qualifier final.
Gulsan, who played all five matches of Nepal in the Asian qualifiers, scored 79 runs with a half-century. But he got the opportunity to bat only in three innings including the semi-final and final. He scored a half-century against Oman in the final. Gulsan Jha
Bowling in all the five matches, he took wickets in four matches and took a total of 5 wickets. Bowling in the middle overs, he has given wickets to the team when needed. “I am very happy to become the best Nepali player in the competition,” said Gulsan, who considered himself lucky to be a member of the team that will lead Nepal to the World Cup again.
Nepal played the T20 World Cup for the first time in 2014 in Bangladesh. He said that he came here after seeing and hearing the performances of Paras Khadka, Gyanendra Malla, Sharad Bheshavkar in that World Cup. “I got into cricket watching my brothers play, now I am happy to play myself,” he said, “The goal is to make everyone happy by performing well.” Gulsan Jha

Who is Gulsan Jha?
Gulsan Jha is the bowler who came into the limelight during the Kathmandu Mayors Cup last March. He played for the Nepal Police Club and had an excellent performance in the final. The 17-year-old fast bowler Jha took 4 wickets while playing the second match for Police in the final.
Sarlahi Malangawa’s Jha made three of APF’s opening four batsmen his prey. He dismissed APF opener Shankar Rana for 4 runs, skipper Sharad Bheshwakar for nil, Bhuvan Karki also for nil and Kamal Singh Airi for 1 run.
Police won the title by winning by 8 wickets due to Jha’s excellent performance. Gulsan Jha
At that time, APF captain Sharad said that while police bowler Jha was bowling well, they were batting poorly. He called Jha a ‘surprise package’.
The 6.1-inch-tall Jha was brought into the team by Police from the Mayor’s Cup. Before that, Jha played for Prime Minister’s Cup Qualifier for Province 2. At that time, he was not able to play in the Prime Minister’s Cup as he was among the alternate players of Province 2.
Jha was not worried about not being in the team for the Prime Minister’s Cup. There were senior players in the team. That’s why I didn’t get a a place in the team,’ said Jha, ‘I was hopeful that I would get a chance one day.’
At that time, the police were looking for a fast bowler in the team. Police trainer Manoj Katuwal, after knowing about Jha, called him to Kathmandu for trial. Gulsan Jha
After performing well in trials and practice matches, he was included in the team by the police.
Jha was unable to play the opening game of the Mayors Cup due to a back problem.
He got a chance in the semi-final against Kathmandu Mayors 11. But they could not perform as expected.
Jha, who caught everyone’s attention with his performance in the final of the Mayor’s Cup, joined the Arunodaya Cricket Academy in Ranchi, India for cricket training four years ago. His cricket-crazy father admitted him to the academy at his own expense.
While learning cricket in Ranchi, he excelled in bowling. While learning cricket there, he played in local tournaments. Jha says that many of those who learned in the academy are playing in India’s prestigious Ranaji Trophy. Gulsan Jha

Gulsan Jha, A definite all-rounder
Gulsan Jha showed signs of an all-rounder in the 50-over match with excellent performance in both batting and bowling in the ODI World Cup Qualifier held in Zimbabwe last June. Now, after a similar performance in the T-20 World Cup Qualifiers, Gulsan has shown that he is becoming a perfect all-rounder.
Gulsan is a special talent. He has played important innings in both ODIs and T20Is at the beginning of his career,” says cricket expert Sharad Bheshavkar, “now Nepal’s team management is good and he will be better in the future. In my opinion, he can be one of the top all-rounders in Nepal.
At one time the then captain Paras Khadka was a perfect all-rounder of the Nepal team. Gulsan considers Khadka, who is also the secretary of the cricket association, a legend. What he has done for Nepali cricket is very much. His contribution to the Nepali team and cricket is unmatchable.’ Gulsan sounded very humble, ‘I will never be able to match with him.’ Gulsan Jha
He said that he enjoys batting, bowling and fielding after entering the field and he tries to fulfill the responsibilities given by the team coach 100 percent. Gulsan Jha
I will only try to fulfill the role given by the coach and captain. I am improving in batting and bowling,’ Gulsan told his goal during the conversation, ‘I am working hard for that word (all-rounder). There are many more matches to be won single handedly for the country.

After winning the toss at the TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, Nepal scored 184 runs due to Gulsan’s aggressive batting. Gulsan Jha
Nepal, who had a poor start, had already lost four wickets after 60 runs in 10 overs. There was also a doubt that Nepal’s score would reach 140-150. But Gulsan, who reached the crease at number six, batted in such a way that the speed of Nepal’s runs increased. He shared an important partnership of 78 runs in 42 balls for the fifth wicket with captain Rohit Paudel.
While making his first half-century in T20Is, Gulsan scored 54 runs with the help of 5 fours and 4 sixes while playing 25 balls. Rohit contributed 52 unbeaten runs. “The crowd is huge in the finals, everyone comes to watch the game,” says Gulsan about the match that Nepal lost in the Super Over, “I will enjoy myself in that.”
During that match, cricket expert Sharad Bheshawkar called Gulshan ‘he is the man for the final’. With this selection, Gulsan proved that he can play in the T20 format as well. He may have barely played 12-15 T20 matches, but he is showing his special ability,” said Sharad after Gulsan ‘s batting and bowling in the final match. We have found a diamond, now how to make a good player by keeping injury free.’ Gulsan Jha
Before that final, he scored 87 runs in 13 T20 matches batting 8 innings. In that, he contributed 22 runs in the semi-final against UAE, which Nepal had to win to qualify for the World Cup. Like in ODIs, Gulsan also batted in one down in T20 World Cup Qualifiers. He batted at number three after Kushal Bhurtel got out in the semi-finals. He shared a partnership of 37 runs with Asif Shaikh in that match.

A goal to win matches in the World Cup
In the 2014 T-20 World Cup held in Bangladesh, Nepal defeated Hong Kong and Afghanistan in the first round of three matches.
At that time, there were two groups in the first stage and only the top one team from both groups entered the second stage. Twenty teams will participate in the T20 World Cup to be held in June 2024 and the participating teams will be divided into four groups. Of course, Nepal will get to play four matches in the group stage. Gulsan Jha
Gulsan said that Nepal’s goal in the World Cup is not only to play but also to win the game. Our goal was clear even before the selection tournament that we are not playing qualifiers just to reach the World Cup. We have made a goal to reach the World Cup and perform well there as well,” Gulsan said about the upcoming goal, “We are also working hard to win the matches there. It’s not just going there to play.
