Number of Deaths Increasing in Nepal Earthquake. Jajarkot & Rukum West Badly Affected
The earthquake that hit Jajarkot in western Nepal at midnight on Friday caused huge loss of life. At least 48 people died in the 6.4 magnitude earthquake and hundreds of houses were damaged.
According to the information received till Saturday morning, 36 people died in Rukum West and 40 people died in Jajarkot. Because it was night, the full details of the damage have not been received yet. Nepal Earthquake
Chief District Officer of Jajarkot Suresh Sunar confirmed that 3 people died in Bheri Municipality and 7 people died in Kushe Rural Municipality. He said that the death toll may rise further and that there are reports of injured people due to house collapse in many places.
Chief District Officer Sunar said, “Since the rescue work is going on, it is not possible to say the exact details of the damage right now.” According to Jajarkot District Hospital, 40 injured people have been brought for treatment till 1.30 am. Nepal Earthquake
DSP Santosh Roka of District Police Office Jajarkot confirmed that Deputy Chief Sarita Singh of Nalgad Municipality also died in the earthquake.
Similarly, the earthquake has caused great damage in the neighboring district of Rukum West. According to District Police Chief DSP Namraj Bhattarai, 36 people have died in Rukum West so far. Bhattarai said that 36 people died in Aathbiskot Municipality and 8 people died in Saniveri Rural Municipality, which is connected to Jajarkot. Nepal Earthquake
85 people were injured in the earthquake in Rukum West. Since the condition of 9 people is serious, preparations are being made to rescue them by helicopter. It is said that the rest of the injured are being treated at District Hospital and Chaurjahari Hospital as well as at various health institutions.
Chandra Prakash Gharti, head of Jajarkot’s Bheri municipality, said that the earthquake caused the most damage in Bheri, Nalgad municipality, Barekot rural municipality, Kushe rural municipality. He said that he has received information that only 8 people have died in his village and said that the death toll may increase. Nepal Earthquake
He said, “There are no houses that are not cracked.” About 40 percent of the houses may have been damaged in one way or another. He said that more than 100 injured people have reached the district hospital. There is a shortage of ambulances and vehicles to rescue the injured.
DSP Arjun KC of Kalikot District Police Office said that the complete details of the damage are yet to come. According to DIG Bhimprasad Dhakal of Karnali Province Police, Deputy Inspector Yamraj Rokaye was injured when a wall collapsed at Jajarkot headquarters. He said that the work of collecting the complete details of other physical and human damages is underway. Nepal Earthquake
According to DIG Dhakal, the police have been mobilized to rescue the injured. He said that an additional rescue team of 40 people was sent to the damaged areas from Surkhet alone at 2 am.
The earthquake has also caused material damage in the rural areas of Salyan. DSP Naveen Karki, Chief of Police of Salyan, said that the news of house collapse was coming from the northern area of the district and there was no information about human casualties. Nepal Earthquake

The death toll has reached 143 in the Friday night earthquake centered on Jajarkot’s Rami Danda. Out of which 105 people died in Jajarkot alone.

According to the Nepal Police, as of 3:30 pm on Saturday, the death toll has reached 105 in Jajarkot, while 38 people have died in Rukum West. According to the police, 81 people were injured in Jajarkot and 85 people were injured in Rukum West. The police informed that the total number of injured is 166.
The injured are being treated in hospitals in Kathmandu, Banke, Surkhet and other districts. Nepal Earthquake
