  • Prakash Saput Biography: Struggle, Success & Musical Journey

In the last few years, some artists are regularly shining in the Nepali musical sky. They have been giving invaluable and melodious songs one after the other in Nepali music field. Similar songs include, ‘Galbandi Chyatiyo Timle Tanera’, ‘Bola Maya’ and ‘Badla Bari Lai!’

Prakash Saput is the singer of these folk songs. These songs of Saput have been shaking both the mind and brain of the Nepali listeners lately. These songs are on the lips of every Nepali. Prakash Saput

Many people devote their entire lives to making their dreams come true. Life goes by, but sometimes dreams remain incomplete. Saput has proven to be an exception in this case. In a short period of time, he made an interventional presence in the world of his dreams, that is, in the field of music. Not only did he earn a name from it, he is now in a good position financially and creatively.

He is currently at the peak of popularity in the field of music. Saput, who once had problems with food and living in poverty, now lives in his own house in Kathmandu. Due to this, his financial status has also risen in a strange way now. However, this success did not come easily and naturally to him. He has worked hard for this. He has struggled a lot. He went ahead with a parallel struggle in the field of caste discrimination, economic deprivation and music. Prakash Saput

Prakash Saput was born in 2047 in Dhamja of Baglung district. As his parents were in India for work, some of his childhood was spent in India. After that he stayed at maternal uncle’s house in Butwal. He studied at his uncle’s house till class 2.

His childhood passed normally. Father had no job. There was no ancestral property either. So, his father used to go to India to earn. His childhood was spent in poverty and hardship. The family was in poor financial condition. During his childhood, he lived the life of a lower-middle class family, living below the marginal poverty line. Prakash Saput

    Harmony and discord together

The society he lived in was a mixed society of Dalit and non-Dalit communities. The situation of cooperation and harmony in the society was good, but caste discrimination was always there. Prakash Saput

Saput says, “The non-Dalits used to sympathize. They used to help when they were in trouble, but it was customary to keep food outside. If the friends who came to play together used to sit inside and eat, he had to sit outside to eat’, he adds, ‘they also used to love and discriminate.’

As he got older and became a little wiser, he stopped going to the houses of non-Dalits except when it was absolutely necessary. As his family, which used to collect food from crops, gradually became self-sufficient, it became easier for him to stay away from non-Dalits.

Saput believes that the development and expansion of urbanization has also played an important role in reducing caste discrimination and making Dalits independent. He says, ‘After money came as a medium of exchange and their needs were met from the market, the situation became easier.’

Prakash Saput believes that the development of technology has helped in the change as much.

The strangest thing is that even those who did not live together and did not eat together in the village started to live in the same room after coming to the city. They started sleeping in the same bed. He says that even in this way the line of distinction is being erased. “However, the discrimination still remains”, says Saput, “however, it has improved a lot compared to before”.

    Singing Journey of Prakash Saput

Although he is currently at the peak of discussion through music, Saput did not get formal knowledge of music from anywhere. Perhaps the soil he grew up in taught him music. The way he walked taught him music.

His grandfather used to sing hymns. Father used to dance and sing in Maruni. He probably got addicted to music from there. He says, “I received the influence of music from my family and from that time I became associated with it in an unknown way.”

When he was studying in class 8, he sang a song about his mother in a big event. He also became a winner. After that, his courage and confidence grew stronger. Prakash Saput

    Love and Marriage

Prakash Saput, who passed class 10 from the village school, went to Baglung Bazar for further studies. He started studying by renting a room in the market. In the meantime, his eyes met with a classmate and they fell in love. Bindu Bohora was that girl who is his wife now.

Ethnically, Bindu was a non-Dalit while Prakash was a Dalit. Class wise she was rich, Prakash was poor. By nature, she was a city dweller, Prakash was from the village. It was very difficult to continue the relationship. But who cares in front of love! Love succeeded and they got married

The in-laws did not accept it for some time but now they have accepted it. Now they have a 3-year-old daughter. The moments spent with her daughter are the most valuable moments for him! The feeling of having a child is the most beautiful of the feelings of life.

Prakash Saput Struggles after coming to Kathmandu

After coming to Kathmandu, Saput started participating in folk recitation competitions, from which he gradually started earning fame and fortune. At this time, he needed money more than name. He started sending some money to the house, which made his family happy as well as himself.

He spent the next 4 years singing songs in dohori sanjh in Thamel. After he started working there, his financial problems were also solved. Acquaintance with people in the music field also increased. Prakash Saput

For livelihood, Prakash Saput worked in hotels and furnitures. Similarly, he also worked in other fields including Dhaulagiri FM. After doing this work, he tried to go abroad, but the dream-fulfilling will suddenly stopped his steps to go abroad.

After that he decided to fight in his own country. He also achieved success. Prakash Saput

    Albums

‘Musumusu Nahas’ was his first album. However, he did not have much success in the initial stage of work. He had worked in around 200 videos in various roles before he came into the limelight with the song ‘Makuramakura Ghur’.

“Bola Maya” brought him to the peak of discussion. Every subsequent project was successful. After this turn, he never looked back.

Not only this, all of his creations after that succeeded in dominating YouTube’s trending.

Recently, his social message music video ‘Badla barilai’ has also been dominating the trending at number 1 for a few days. Prakash Saput

    Accused of theft

It was alleged that the lyrics of Saput’s famous song ‘Galbandi’ were mixed with Shambhu Rai’s song. There was a big dispute and in the end an agreement was reached by including Rai’s name in the initiator. He thinks this feeling is worst feeling in life.

    The secret to being multitalented

“Sometimes I ate by singing songs, sometimes I ate by writing, sometimes I ate by dancing”, says Saput, “In the course of making a living, I got to know many paths.” Necessity introduced these paths. Later, this proved to be the helper of my uphill journey.

He scattered in many places but also succeeded in many places. He says, ‘The tree was the same. I feel proud that I was able to grow in many branches.

    Continuity is art

In Saput’s understanding, the life of ordinary people stops after reaching a point, but the life of artists continues. It is associated with many. Acquaintance with many. There are many people who inspire, encourage and support you to move forward in life,’ he says, ‘this has made it easy to continue the journey.’

While moving forward in the pace of life, some stopped at the bottom step, some went a little higher than that. That is, wherever they were found, they left there. Some people even complain, but even if they want to, they cannot take everyone together, he says.

“If you don’t evaluate yourself and if you don’t evaluate others, life will be easy,” he says.

    Life success or achievement

His understanding of life is simple. He was poor at a young age. He felt that life was lacking then. Then love happened. At that time, “I thought that life is love”.

Then came the stage of struggle and it started to seem that life is a struggle. Now there is a feeling of success. He thinks that now life is success or achievement. With the experience of life, the understanding of life is changing. “Definitions keep changing,” he says. Prakash Saput

Music is the basis of living life

Saput says, music is the basis of living life because I have realized that. Music is creativity because I created it. I can say that music is like meditation for me.

He says that he enjoys listening to music and is enjoying it. In his understanding, no definitions are absolute. Definitions are relative to life experiences.

On the whole, considering the socio-economic background he came from, the position he is in today, all this seems like a great achievement to him. However, he is not very happy with the happiness he received.

His successes are not sudden successes. These have been done in a planned way and one after the other. Everyone has the same passion and effort. “I am satisfied with where I am today, but there is still a lot of work to be done,” he says. Prakash Saput
